Award Ceremony at Sheffield Cathedral.
After nominating Jennifer Oxley, (Resident of the Year 2017), for The Neighbourhood Community Champion Award, we are pleased to announce that Jen was highly commended at last night’s award ceremony. We all know how much Jen does for our village and how huge areas have been transformed into beautiful gardens after being an eyesore for many years.
There were 300 nominations from all over South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire for the 8 categories. These had been judged and 24 finalists picked. Jen was chosen as one of the top 3 in her category alongside a gentlemen who is doing some fantastic work in Stainforth, enabling the library to continue for residents as well as other voluntary work – The winner was a lady from Sheffield who had been tackling knife crime amongst youngsters.
Jen, her sister Sandra and I had a very special evening at the ceremony which was held in the prestigious Sheffield Cathedral. The setting was spectacular and the whole evening was rather humbling, considering the different categories and how the nominees had worked do hard, selflessly, for the benefit of their communities.
Community Spirit is alive and well!
