Message from Thorne Rural Lions

Announcement due to Covid-19 Pandemic.

It is with the greatest regret that Thorne Rural Lions have had to make the decision to cancel our activities  for 2020.

Our Lions members have spent much of 2020 working on the sleigh for this year, our plans start early in the year & whist we explored every possibility  this year it has been decided that it would not be safe for the public or the volunteers to take the sleigh out.

One idea was to go out with a minimum team with Santa ,a driver+ 4 others with no collections & ask the public to wave from their doorsteps or windows , most would ,some would not.

We cover such a large area &we could not risk spreading the disease from one area to another.

It’s just one year & they will be many more, Hugely disappointing, not just for you but for us too, if people were to gather we could be accused of encouraging it, which would the covid  regulations in place & we could not risk a heavy or other & yesterday we were told that we wouldn’t get  insurance.

As Lions we are devastated  for not only that Santa on the sleigh brings joy & happiness to thousands of people in our communities but it is also our main fundraiser for to support our humanitarian for throughout the year.

We would like you to continue to support our Toy appeal  2020 & we will continue with our other work  again support those in need in community.

Thorne Rural Lions wish everyone all the best for Christmas & let us all look forward to a good 2021

Thank you & take care.
