UCI Cycling event travelling through Edenthorpe

Friday 27th September

Well what an exciting day for our village, we had the junior women’s race in the morning then the male U23 passing through early afternoon. The atmosphere was brilliant, lots of residents, local schools lined the route, cheering the cyclists through the village.

Houses and businesses were decorated along the route, thanks to the kind donations from Doncaster MBC. If anyone would like to donate the bunting, flags, bikes back we would be extremely grateful. They can then be used for future events.

Please see letter below, received from Darren Simpson (DMBC)

Hi All,

Now the dust has just about settled from Friday, I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who I have been in contact with.

Many of you delivered events, decorated your areas/ Businesses, promoted the event and much more which ensured Doncaster once again stood out as getting in the spirit for this massive international Sporting event.

Feedback form those involved in the planning including UCI, British Cycling, Sport England and Welcome to Yorkshire has been extremely positive highlighting our approach to engaging communities and schools as best practise and in particular our approach to rider sign on at the start, now setting the bench mark for all other cycling events. Despite the weather I am sure those riders who set out from Doncaster will have fond memories of their ride across the Borough that will hopefully live with them for a long time.

Though I wasn’t on the ground during the day, I was watching from the Control Room as the riders went through each area and was proud of all the work that had gone into your Communities. We also received glowing feedback from our stewards in the areas who advised that they were all made to feel welcome and enjoyed being part of the festivities.

We all hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did. Please ensure you watch the races on BBC IPlayer if you haven’t already done so.

Keep an eye out on our website over the next few weeks as it will soon change from an information portal to a legacy site showing how great Doncaster was throughout the day.

We will soon be in touch with you all to see if you are happy to donate back to us any painted bikes / Bunting / Flags etc as we will ensure they are distributed to other Communities in future events.

Thanks again and hopefully our paths will cross again in the near future.

Kind regards

Parish Councillor A Devy

Thank you

At meeting held  1st July 2019 – A Devy passed her letter of resignation as Parish Councillor. Ann has fulfilled the role for many years but is ready to move on to the next chapter of her life. D Barrow (Vice Chair) thanked Ann at the meeting for her time and commitment to Edenthorpe Parish Council, this was echoed by other members present.

A Flanagan (Clerk) presented Ann with a bouquet of flowers to show the appreciation felt by members.

Thank you Ann and we wish you all the best for the future.

Piano donated by kind resident.

Piano now in residence.

We were so lucky, early June I saw a Facebook post asking if any community groups would like a piano for their community building. As a keen musician, I have spent many hours playing the piano both for pleasure and work, I had often thought how wonderful it would be to have a piano in our Church Balk Centre for birthday parties, 47th Edenthorpe Scout Groups and other users. I contacted David straightaway and he was delighted to help. We just had to pick it up.

Thanks David Dewey, you were very  kind to  donate your piano to us for our Church Balk Centre . What fun we had moving it though from David’s house to The Centre , “To me, to you!”  You can imagine the huffs and instructions…….

Here’s a few pictures of the road trip after the lifting and heaving.  It is all set up and happy in  it’s new home.

Thank you David we love it!

Thank you to Quick Skips, Doncaster

Renovations began this week.

A very big thank you to Dave Shaw, John and everyone at Quick Skips, Doncaster for their generous discount for the 4 ton skip we hired this week.

We have been waiting for a very long time to have our kitchen renovated, sadly we were not successful with a grant from Suez so this has been funded from Parish Council money.

The kitchen was the original 1972 model and although very clean was totally outdated and needed replacing.  Monday 3rd June  was the starting date, all is well underway and kitchen should be completed in the next few days.

Enjoy these pictures of the project .
